Katsina State Governor, Malam Dikko Umar Radda, has praised Ahmadu Bello University (ABU), Zaria, for sustaining the academic standards that have distinguished the institution since its establishment in 1962.
Governor Radda, himself an alumnus of the university, made the commendation on Friday when the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Adamu Ahmed, led a high-level delegation from ABU on a courtesy visit to the Government House, Katsina.
According to him, the legacy of the university’s founder, Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto and Premier of the defunct Northern Region, continues to reflect in the institution’s achievements.
“The glory of the university is ever there; we are always proud to say we are the products of Ahmadu Bello University,” Radda said. He added that the university remained a pride to the North and one of the leading academic institutions in Nigeria and beyond because it was founded on sincerity of purpose.
The governor further noted that the history of Katsina State could not be complete without the contributions of ABU, recalling that late Governor Umaru Musa ‘Yar’Adua’s passion for education played a key role in establishing ABU’s School of Basic and Remedial Studies (SBRS) in Funtua.
Radda expressed gratitude to the Vice-Chancellor and his team for the visit, assuring that he would attend ABU’s forthcoming 45th convocation if official duties allowed.
Earlier, Prof. Ahmed said the delegation was in Katsina to condole with the governor and the people of the state over the death of former President Muhammadu Buhari, as well as to sympathise with Radda over his recent road accident.
He commended the governor’s resilience and devotion to duty, which he said had inspired relief and admiration among the ABU community.
The ABU delegation included top officials such as Deputy Vice-Chancellor, Advancement, Research and Innovation, Prof. Sanusi Aliyu Rafindadi; Registrar, Rabiu Samaila; Dean of Students, Prof. Sahalu B. Junaidu; and Director, Advancement and International Education, Prof. Sani Abba Aliyu.
Others were former Chief Medical Director of ABU Teaching Hospital, Prof. Abdulmumini Hassan Rafindadi; Executive Director, Institute for Agricultural Research, Prof. Yusuf A. Ado; Executive Director, NAPRI, Prof. Mohammed Rabiu Hassan; and Executive Director, NAERLS, Prof. Yusuf Sani Ahmed.
On the part of the Katsina State Government, Governor Radda was joined by his Chief of Staff, Alhaji Abdulkadir Mamman Nasir; Principal Private Secretary, Alhaji Aliyu Turaji; Commissioner for Lands and Physical Planning, Dr. Faisal Umar Kaita; and Commissioner for Higher, Technical and Vocational Education, Isa Mohammed Musa, among other senior officials.
